The Plant is conncerned with the environment and carries out reforestation with native seedlings in permanent areas of preservation.
According to Gustavo Fregonez Baptista, agronomic coordinator of the Alta Paulista Plant, ecouraging reforestation directly improves the quality of life of the Plant's employees and the community. "The Alta Paulista Plant (USALPA) is concerned with the preservation of the environment, and consequently, with the improvement of the quality of life of the community in which it is situated, carrying out reforestation of permanent preservation areas (riparian forests around rivers and streams) with the annual plantation of 70 thousand native seedlings on the USALPA property" he says
Aware of the importance of socio-environmental projects, USALPA decided to participate in Dracena's Programa Semear. The objective of the Semear Program is to promote reforestation and rehabilitate the prisoners, creating a nursery within Dracena Penitentiary Prison, with the capacity to produce up to 2 million seedlings per year. "The Semear Program matched the socio-environmental aims of USALPA", explains Baptista.
Besides concern for the environment, Bapista highlights USALPA's social practices that better the quality fo life of the community. Since 2006, USALPA, in partnership with the NGO Sonho Nosso, An organisation the develops programs together with the Health Ministry and the State Government, it promotes educational workshops for field workers. "This preventative work, brought a national prize to USALPA in 2009, the 5th CEN-AIDS prize in the world of work." Promoted by CEN-Aids (Conselho Empresarial Nacional para prevenção de HIV/Aids).
