Power Plant policy zeroes in on environmental action, in order to benefit the community and the job market
The history of the Rio Vermelho power plant is punctuated by various environmental activities which benefit the society. In agreement with André Bertolini, Security Technician for the power plant, the company policy favour activities such as: the H1N1 vaccination campaign, Teaching Visits program, Organizational Development Program, Preventative anti-AIDS campaigns, membership of the Green Ethanol protocol, 5S Quality Program and most recently, joining the Semear Program. Participating in the Semear Program means taking part in an activity which will bring great benefits to society. The project will promote rehabilitation and will facilitate reforestation, through the seedlings that will be cultivated by the inmates. Bertolini says that the participation in the Semear Program is aligned with the ideas of the directorate of the power plant, who seek to forge socio-environmental relationships to better the quality of life and the job market. The power plant has important systems at its disposal for ecologically and environmentally correct production. The Security Technician of Rio Vermelho talks about a new manual sugar cane planting system, equipment and procedure for the reduction of consumption of water, reusing water used to wash the sugar cane, and water used to clean the atmospheric emissions control gases. Besides this, there are also 3.5km of tubes for the application of waste wine (used as organic compost material in plantation areas) and for the recuperation of alcohol during the fermentation process, the plant is also completely energy self-sufficient, having generators with a capacity of 3,600 MW/h. Bertolini concluded that one of the principal factors that makes Rio Vermelho a successful business, are the professionals that make up the team. "The team spirit of our employees deserves a mention, as it has made and continues to make the difference".
