Bandeira de Dracena

History

In September 1945, Írio Spinardi, João Vendramini, Vigílio e Florêncio Fioravante took the iniative to establish a community in the "Forest Zone", between the river Peixe, Aguapeí (Feio) and the river Paraná, they acquired a plot of land around 30 acres, in a near virgin area, with a few sparse landowners.

The date of the 8th December, was chosen as it is the day of the Immaculate Conception, so that Dracena would develop under the guidance of Our Lady of Aparecida (The Patron Saint of Brazil) to such an extent that the municipality is called 'MIRACLE - CITY'.

The administrators divided the land into small plots and donated them to small landowners, contributing to their growth. The municpality was created into 1948, and the first mayor, Írio Spinardi, assumed the mandate on the 4th April 1949 (the date of Dracena's political and administrative independence).

In the village of Dracena, with the lands disbanded areas in the distrcit of Gracianópolis, (currently Tupi Paulista) from the municipality of Lucélia, the District of Peace was created, it was made up of the Districts of Dracena, Jaciporã and Ouro Verde. It featured in the territorial register fixed by State law no2,456 of 30th December 1953, to be implemented over the 1954 to 1958 period, with the Ouro Verde districts, raised in the territorial divison dated 1st July 1960.

Origins of the name.

A competition was launched in Tupã in order to choose the name of the new village, which would also serve as a kind of advertisement for the new village.
